Comeback Falls Short for Bruins
October 17, 2015 | Women's Soccer
Time ran out on UCLA's comeback efforts in Corvallis, as the Bruins lost to Oregon State, 2-1, to fall to 6-7-1, 2-3-1 on the year.
With UCLA facing a 2-0 deficit and the clock winding down, junior forward Darian Jenkins cut the Beavers' lead in half with a goal from up the middle at 88:00, her team-leading fifth goal of the season. Kodi Lavrusky recorded the assist. However, with just two minutes remaining in the game, the Bruins were unable to come up with the tying goal to extend the game.
Oregon State (6-5-3, 2-4-0) took the lead at 18:13 on a goal by Nikki Faris and doubled its advantage at 83:49 on an 18-yard shot by Emma Jones, with Faris and Kayla Latham recording the assists.
UCLA came alive after the Beavers' second goal, recording five of their nine shots in the final six minutes of play. Lauren Kaskie had a shot at 84:12 that was saved by Oregon State goalkeeper Bella Geist, and 25 seconds later, MacKenzie Cerda took a shot that was blocked. Kaskie had another crack at a shot at 84:46 but was once again denied by Geist. Cerda's second shot of the game went wide at 86:56 before Jenkins broke through with her goal.
The Bruins will next play Colorado on Friday, Oct. 23 at 6pm at Drake Stadium.
