Late Washington Goal Drops UCLA, 2-1
October 02, 2015 | Women's Soccer
UCLA lost its first Pac-12 game since 2012, falling 2-1 to Washington in Seattle on Thursday night. Washington's Amanda Perez scored the game-winner off a deflection in the 85th minute.
The Bruins (5-5, 1-1) fell behind 1-0 at 64:40 after Dominique Bond-Flasza's shot was saved by Arielle Schechtman. Kelcie Hedge buried the rebound to put the Huskies up 1-0. Not even 30 seconds later, though, UCLA equalized in a similar fashion. Taylor Smith ripped a shot that Megan Kufeld saved but could not handle. Kristiana Konkol-Mroczkowski slotted the rebound far post for her first goal of the year.
An unfortunate deflection by the Bruins led to the game-winner. Havana McElvaine sent a shot into the box that got deflected by a Bruin defender, and the ball bounced just outside the six to Perez, who one-timed it past Schechtman at 84:54.
Schechtman had another big game in goal, totaling 10 saves for the second consecutive match. Kufeld recorded four saves in a winning effort for the Huskies (8-2-1, 1-1).
UCLA will next face Washington State on Sunday, Oct. 4 at 11am. The match will be televised live on Pac-12 Networks.
