
Madison Kocian Wins Uneven Bars Gold

Future Bruin Madison Kocian won gold on uneven bars at the 2015 World Championships on Saturday, her second gold medal of this year's championships and her third career world gold.
Kocian finished in a four-way tie for first place with two Russian gymnasts and a Chinese gymnast, with all four scoring 15.366. There are no tiebreakers at the World Championships. Kocian improved upon both her qualifying and team finals routines, on which she scored 15.233 and 15.3, respectively. She tied for the highest execution score with an 8.766.
Kocian will become the first individual World champion ever to compete for UCLA when she joins the Bruin squad in the 2016-17 season. She has three golds medals in the last two World Championships, capturing team gold in 2014 and team and uneven bars bars gold in 2015. Other Bruin gymnasts to capture world team gold medals are Tasha Schwikert (2003), Samantha Peszek (2007) and signee Kyla Ross (2014).
