LOS ANGELES, Calif. – UCLA's Martin Redlicki and Karue Sell advanced to the second round of qualifying singles at the 2015 Saint Francis Health System ITA Men's All-American Championships after winning their first round matches on Monday.
First-seeded Redlicki defeated Juan Matias Gonzalez of Tulsa in straights, while Sell took down LSU's Boris Arias in three sets. After winning the first set, 6-2, Sell dropped the second, 6-4. Sell rallied in the third, 7-6 (2), to take the match and advance to the second round. Sell saved five match points throughout the two hour and 20-minute battle - serving 4-5 in the third set he saved two and serving 5-6 in the third set he saved three.
In last weekend's pre-qualifying matches, Ryoto Tachi fell in the round of 128 after cruising past Troy's Vaclav Slezak, 6-2, 6-4. On Saturday, Austin Rapp was defeated by FSU's Terrell Whitehurst in the round of 256. Joseph Di Giulio won his first two matches in the pre-qualifying draw, but fell in the round of 64 on Sunday to UNLV's Jakob Amilon.
Qualifying matches will continue on Tuesday, with main draw contests beginning on Oct. 8. The singles and doubles finals are scheduled for Oct. 12.
Singles quarterfinalists, doubles finalists, and consolation champions will receive an automatic entry into the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships on Nov. 12-15, to be played at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y.
UCLA has won the second-most men's doubles titles with three, behind Tennessee with five.

ATP Challenger Action
Mackenzie McDonald and former Bruins Dennis Novikov and Marcos Giron hit the courts this week at the Sacramento Challenger. McDonald faces Peter Polansky of Canada on Tuesday morning, while sixth-seeded Novikov takes on wild card Sekou Bangoura on Monday afternoon. Giron will play in the main draw as well after defeating Adrien Bossel in the qualifying final, 3-6, 6-2, 6-3, on Monday morning. This was the fourth time this year that Giron has come back to win after losing the first set.
