FLUSHING, N.Y. – UCLA's Martin Redlicki and Catherine Harrison head to New York to compete in the 2015 USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships. Competition begins on Thursday, Nov. 12, at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
Redlicki gained automatic entry into the tournament when he captured the singles title at the 2015 USTA/ITA Southwest Regional Championship in October. After dropping the first set of the final, 3-6, fourth-seeded Redlicki rallied to take the second and force the third set tiebreaker. Redlicki and cross-town rival Logan Smith (USC) went down to the wire in the final set of the championship match, but Redlicki edged the Trojan, 6-4, to take the title.
On the women's side, Harrison has had a strong fall campaign for the Bruins. Earlier in October, the Bruin advanced to the consolation semifinals of the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships after falling to No. 16 Klara Fabikova (Cal) in three sets in the main draw round of 32. More recently, Harrison lost in the final of the USTA/ITA Southwest Regional Championship in San Diego. After cruising to the championship match without dropping a set, Harrison was edged, 7-6(8), 6-4, by Stefani Luisa (Pepperdine). The UCLA senior earned an at-large berth to Flushing.
As the only tournament on the ITA calendar to showcase elite players from every level of college tennis, the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships serves as the culmination of the fall season. Hosted by Columbia University, this prestigious event features a 32-player singles draw and a 20-team doubles draw for men and women.
Gaining automatic entry into the tournament are champions from the USTA/ITA Division I Regional Championships held across the country in October, winners of the USTA/ITA National Small College Super Bowl, as well as the consolation champions, doubles finalists, men's singles quarterfinalists and women's singles semifinalists from the ITA Men's and Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships.
