LOS ANGELES – UCLA head women's basketball coach Cori Close announced today the signing of Ally Rosenblum (Newport Coast, Calif./Mater Dei HS) to a National Letter of Intent.
Rosenblum will enter UCLA in the fall of 2016 as a freshman and will become a member of the 2016-17 women's basketball team.
"Ally is the perfect Bruin," Coach Close said. "Her father and grandfather are both Bruins and she's dreamed about this her whole life. But she has earned this opportunity on her own and is very talented. She is a versatile basketball player that is driven and is a great teammate with an excellent work ethic. We are so excited about her officially becoming a part of our Bruin family."
Rosenblum, a 6-4 forward, averaged 10.3 points, 6.1 rebounds and 1.0 blocks per game during the 2014-15 season, helping lead Mater Dei High School to a 31-3 overall record and an 8-0 mark in the Trinity League. The Monarchs have won eight straight Trinity League titles, winning the last 58 consecutive league games. Coached by Kevin Kiernan, Mater Dei finished the season ranked No. 1 in California and No. 6 in the nation, marking the seventh straight year MDHS finished in the top 10 nationally.
A three-year varsity letterwinner in basketball, Rosenblum was selected as a First Team All-State player in 2015 and to the Second Team All-State in 2014 as a sophomore. That season, MDHS went 27-3 (9-0 in league play) and finished ranked No. 1 in California and No. 3 nationally.
Rosenblum is ranked in the Top 100 by most recruiting services including No. 56 by ESPN's HoopGurlz, No. 56 by Dan Olson's Basketball Report and No. 77 by Prospects Nation. She is also ranked near the top in the forward rankings, coming in as the No. 7 rated forward by HoopGurlz, No. 9 by Dan Olson's Basketball Report and No. 15 by Prospects Nation.
"I decided to attend UCLA for many reasons," Rosenblum said. "I absolutely love the coaching staff and their vision. I believe in it, and can't wait to be a part of it. I also love how Coach Cori (Close) is about developing a total woman and not just focused on the basketball aspect. UCLA is top academically and has a history of excellence. I just love what UCLA is about."
