MVB Signs A Pair Of Standouts

The UCLA men's volleyball team announced the signing of two outstanding student-athletes for the 2016-17 season. Joining the Bruins in the fall of 2016 will be middle blocker / outside hitter Daenan Gyimah and setter/ opposite/ outside hitter Sam Kobrine.
Gyimah is a 6-8 middle blocker/outside hitter from Sir Oliver Mowat Collegiate Institute in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He is an explosive athlete who was a Canadian National All-Star and an Ontario Volleyball Association All-Star performer. Gyimah played for STVC Nemesis, Team Ontario and Youth Team Canada.
Kobrine is a 6-3 setter / opposite / outside hitter from Corona del Mar, Calif. High School. He was listed as a Volleyball Magazine “25 Underclassmen to Watch” for 2016 and a member of the 2015 USA Youth National Training team. Kobrine has led Corona del Mar to back-to-back California Division 2 State Championships. He was named All-Tournament at the Santa Barbara Tournament and has earned four Boys Junior National Championship medals, including two golds and a bronze. Kobrine was selected BJNC All-Tournament in 2014-15. Also a standout on the basketball court, he was the leading scorer for his high school team last season and helped them advance to the 2015 CIF Finals.
Head coach John Speraw's UCLA men's volleyball team will conclude pre-season play in the annual SAC Tournament on campus on Nov. 20-21 with matches against USC, CSUN and UC Santa Barbara. The squad will open up the 2016 season with an exhibition match on Jan. 3 against the University of British Columbia. The first home match of the new season will be on Jan. 23 against USC in Pauley Pavilion.
