The UCLA men's volleyball team opened up play in its annual pre-season tournament with a 3-1 loss at the hands of UC Santa Barbara on Friday evening in the SAC Gym on campus. The Gauchos outpointed the Bruins 25-21, 25-21, 19-25, 25-18.

UCLA was led by Jake Arnitz and Hagen Smith who each totaled eight kills. John Zappia added seven kills. Arnitz and freshman Micah Ma'a registered four service aces apiece.

The Bruins will square off against CSUN on Saturday at 9 a.m. and then conclude tournament play at 2 p.m in a match against USC. The Trojans defeated CSUN in Friday evening's other match, 3-1.
