Women's Tennis Knocks Off No. 4 Baylor, 4-3 in Waco

The Bruins actually needed a come-from-behind victory on Saturday, as UCLA (10-2) trailed Baylor, 2-3 with just two matches left on court. At court No. 6, UCLA freshman Kristin Wiley was up a set over Theresa Van Zyl, while third-ranked senior Robin Anderson also had a set advantage over No. 23 Ema Burgic at court No. 1. Wiley was able to finish off Van Zyl, 7-5, 6-3 to tie the dual match at 3-3.
Following Wiley's victory, a second-set tiebreaker between Anderson and Burgic would soon follow at court No. 1. Things looked good for Baylor (12-3) from the start, as Burgic stormed out to a 6-2 lead. Just when it looked like the match was heading to a third set, Anderson began to chip away at the lead. Not only did she fight off four set points, she actually won the final six points of the match to take the tiebreaker 8-6, registering a 7-6(5), 7-6(6) victory to clinch the 4-3 win for UCLA.
The Bruins lost the doubles point to start the match, meaning that UCLA needed to win four matches in singles play. In addition to Anderson and Wiley, UCLA received straight-set wins from Catherine Harrison (court No. 4) and Kaitlin Ray (court No. 6).
UCLA opens up Pac-12 play next week in Pullman, Wash., taking on Washington State at 11:00 a.m.
