
Bruins Swept by Hawai'i

The No. 12 men's volleyball team dropped a straight-set decision to top-ranked Hawai'i in an MPSF match played on Tuesday night in Pauley Pavilion. Scores were 13-25, 18-25, 18-25. UCLA is now 11-11 overall and 7-11 in the league.
Hawai'i, which won its 12th straight match, hit an opponent season-best of .465 against the Bruins, going over .500 in sets two and there. The Bruins hit .114 for the contest. The Rainbow Warriors also owned the nets by a 12.5 to 2.0 margin in total blocks. The 2.0 mark was a season-low for UCLA.
Jake Arnitz topped the Bruins with seven kills and two block assists. Eric Sprague had four kills and hit .571. Michael Fisher totaled five kills, an ace and five digs. Mitch Stahl registered an ace for the eighth straight match. Arnitz had his eighth ace in the last three matches.
In set one, Hawai'i broke a 6-all tie with three straight points. The visitors extended the lead to 11-17 and went on to post a 13-25 win. UCLA hit .000 in the set.
In set two, UCLA closed to within 5-6 on a Sprague kill and 8-9 on a block by Stahl and Arnitz.UH scored the next five points. The Bruins rallied to within 14-16 after two kills from Oliver Martin, an ace by Arnitz and a Sprague kill. Hawai'i quickly answered to take a 15-19 edge and went on to win 18-25.
UH pulled out to a 7-10 lead in set three. The Bruins tied it up at 11 on a kill from Arnitz. However, UH tallied the next three points to regain the momentum. UCLA made it 17-20 after an ace from Fisher, but Hawai'i registered a 18-25 win.
UCLA will travel to play at No. 3-ranked Pepperdine on April 7 before returning to Pauley for matches against No. 5-ranked UC Irvine on Apr. 10 and against UC San Diego on Apr. 11.
