LOS ANGELES – Logan Staggs, a sophomore transfer from Northwestern University, will join the UCLA men's tennis team this fall, head coach Billy Martin announced Wednesday.
“I'm very excited to announce that Logan has chosen to compete for the Bruins,” said Martin. “I recruited Logan when he was in the juniors and he had a terrific first season at Northwestern.”
In his debut season with the Wildcats, Staggs co-led the team with 25 singles wins. The freshman standout split time between No. 3 and No. 4 singles, and was named Big Ten Athlete of the Week on February 10, after winning all three of his singles matches the weekend prior.
Ranked as high as No. 5 in the nation by TennisRecruiting.net, the Kimball High School graduate had a national RPI of No. 3 and was the top-ranked player in California in both singles and doubles. A high school All-American, Staggs won Winter Nationals—one of the four major national championships in the United States—in December 2013. Staggs was also the recipient of the Sportsmanship Award at Winter Nationals in 2012.
“Logan is a tremendous competitor,” said Martin. “He plays with a lot of passion and has a great work ethic both on and off the court. I look forward to him making an impact on our team and helping us fight for a national championship.”
