
Cross Country Wrapped Up Week Two

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – The UCLA cross country team returned from the Mammoth Lakes to compete in its second race of the season. The men took top honors while the women were the runner-up, Saturday morning at the Mustang Challenge, held at Central Park.
The men were paced by Myles Smith, who won the 8k event in a time of 25:00.68. Smith seized the lead early and cruised to a 14-second victory. The men secured the victory over a field of 18 teams, outdistancing LMU, 38-69.
Jackson Marshall finished fourth overall with a time of 25:18.19 while Max Davis was a top-10 finisher, placing sixth with a time of 25:26.85.
Sean Davis was 14th with a time of 25:44.12 while Nolan Dickson rounded out the Bruin scorers in 19th with a 26:01.50.
Cole Smith came in 31st with a time of 26:14.55 and Sahm Bazargan closely followed in 34th at 26:16.12. Jon Bazinet placed 53rd in 26:43.04 while Scott Edwards closed out the UCLA men with a time of 28:36.73 to finish 145th overall.
The women placed second overall with 94 points and were led by freshman Taylor Taite. The newcomer placed 10th overall with a 5k time of 18:10.78. Close behind was Aliya Shirif in 15th place at 18:18.02 and freshman Julia Rizk in 20th place with an 18:22.86.
Sabrina Seay and Roni Yamane scored for the Bruins as Seay placed 24th with a time of 18:33.11 and Yamane was 26th in 18:34.43. Emily Fieberling followed in 32nd with a time of 18:37.55 and Kelly Brooks was 37th at 18:42.83.
Jessica Cushing-Murray finished 43rd overall with a time of 18:49.16 and Katie Sered was 53rd with an 18:57.02. Ashlee Powers was 91st in a time of 19:37.44 while Gabby Sered rounded out the Bruins in 132nd place at 20:11.91.
UCLA will take next weekend off and then head to the Washington Invitational on Friday, Oct. 2. The Bruins had a lot of success last season in Seattle as the men placed second and the women finished fourth against a talented field.
