STANFORD, Calif., -- The top-ranked UCLA Bruins improved to 7-0 on the year with a 12-6 win over No. 9 Pepperdine (4-2) in the quarterfinals of the Kap7 NorCal Invitational on Saturday afternoon at Stanford's Belardi Pool.
Junior Chancellor Ramirez scored two goals in his first game back to round out a quartet of Bruins to score twice against the Waves. Juniors Ryder Roberts, Patrick Fellner and Gordon Marshall each scored two goals in the win.
The Bruins jumped out to a 2-0 advantage with goals from Fellner (front court, 6:02) and Roberts (penalty, 5:02). Pepperdine scored the final goal of the first period to trim the lead 2-1 on a power play strike by Luke Hewko (2:35).
UCLA dominated the second period 4-0 to build a 6-1 lead by halftime. Marshall scored from two meters (4:25) and then the Bruins capitalized on three 6-on-5 opportunities, getting power play goals from sophomore Alex Roelse (3:09), Roberts (2:22) and Marshall (1:30).
Fellner opened the scoring in the third with a power play goal (5:28) to put UCLA up 7-1. But Pepperdine got a score from the front court by Wesley Sherburne (4:21) to trim the lead to 7-2. Ramirez then scored two straight goals, the first on a counter (3:38) and the later from the front court (2:48) to extend the lead to 9-2. Christopher Dilworth scored from five meters after an ordinary for the Waves to end the scoring in the period with UCLA leading 9-3.
Both teams scored three goals in the fourth to provide the 12-6 final. UCLA scored the first two goals of the final stanza to lead 11-3. Senior Danny McClintick scored from the front court (7:32) and redshirt freshman Warren Snyder scored off a drive on a nice feed from freshman Spencer Farrar (4:13). After Pepperdine reeled off three unanswered goals to close the gap to 11-6, redshirt freshman James Robinson answered with a score from the front court (0:19) to end the scoring.
Junior Garrett Danner got the start in the cage for the Bruins and played the first three periods, registering nine saves while allowing three goals and making three steals. Freshman Alex Wolf played the fourth quarter, registering one save while allowing three goals. Saves were not kept by Stanford so nothing was reported for Pepperdine.

The Bruins will face No. 4 California at 10:50 a.m. tomorrow in the first semifinal at Avery Pool. The Golden Bears advanced to the semis with a 12-5 win over fifth-seeded UC Santa Barbara.
