Bruins Dominate 1-Meter Event

Six Bruins placed in the top 10 in the 1-meter final on Friday

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Six Bruins placed in the top 10 in the women's 1-meter final at the Bruin Diving Invitational on Friday afternoon.  Sophomore Maria Polyakova and freshman Eloise Belanger went 1, 2, while junior Annika Lenz also recorded a top-five finish.

Polyakova, the Pac-12 Diver of the Month for November and December, posted a season-best 321.85 in the 1-meter finals.  Since the season began in October, the Bruin has won five of six 1-meter events.

Bélanger qualified for NCAA Zones with both of her scores on Friday.  The Bruin newcomer recorded a 292.60 in prelims and improved her six-dive score by 19 points in the finals (311.60).   

Lenz placed fourth overall after posting a season-best 289.75 in the finals.  Ciara Monahan and Montana Monahan nabbed seventh- and eighth-place finishes, respectively.  With a 275.70 in the finals, Montana qualified for NCAA Zones in the event. 

Rounding out the top 10 was freshman Kat Friese.  Her season-best 267.45 in the morning session qualified her for NCAA Zones as well.    

The Bruin Diving Invitational continues on Saturday with the women's 3-meter and the men's platform beginning at 10:30 a.m. PST.  Live results will be available on DiveMeets.com.
