Former UCLA basketball standouts Kevin Love and Russell Westbrook have been selected among 30 finalists for the 2016 U.S. Olympics Men's Basketball Team.

Love and Westbrook helped the United States capture the gold medal at the 2012 Olympic Games in London, just four years after having helped lead UCLA's team to its third consecutive NCAA Final Four in 2008.

In all, nine players from the gold medal winning 2012 U.S. Olympic team that went 8-0 in London remain in contention for 2016 roster spots, including Love, Westbrook, Carmelo Anthony, Anthony Davis, Kevin Durant, James Harden, Andre Iguodala, Lebron James and Chris Paul. Anthony, Howard, James and Paul were also members of the 2008 U.S. Olympic team that posted an 8-0 record and won gold in Beijing.

Love and Westbrook were also teammates on the 2010 USA World Championship squad that went 9-0 and captured gold in Istanbul, Turkey. The duo of former UCLA standouts teamed with Iguodala, Durant, Rudy Gay and Stephen Curry on that gold medal-winning team.

A two-year guard for the Bruins in 2006-07 and 2007-08, Westbrook helped UCLA advance to back-to-back NCAA Final Fours in those two seasons. He averaged 12.7 points and 4.3 assists per game as a sophomore before being selected fourth overall in the 2008 NBA Draft by the Seattle SuperSonics.

A freshman sensation and Pac-10 Player of the Year at UCLA in 2007-08, Love concluded his one season with the program having averaged 17.5 points and 10.6 rebounds per game. Love shot nearly 56 percent from the field before being selected fifth overall in the 2008 NBA Draft by the Memphis Grizzlies (subsequently traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves).

The 2016 Olympic Games will take place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
