BEAUMONT, Calif. - UCLA alum Erynne Lee became the first rookie to win a Symetra Tour season opener in 11 years when she won last weekend's IOA Championship presented by Morongo Casino Resort & Spa (Feb. 19-21).
Lee won the tournament by one shot thanks to a 7-under 65 on the final day. She closed with an eagle on the 16th hole and pars on #17 and #18 to finish at 11-under (205).
"Number one is great because I get an exemption into the next event in Florida and since my status is still a little iffy as I didn't make it past Stage II (of Qualifying Tournament) that is important," Lee told the Symetra Tour website. "This is a huge confidence booster and I can just improve from here." Lee won the NWGA mini tour event two weeks ago on the same course she played on last weekend.
Lee earned four WGCA All-America and All-Pac-12 honors as a Bruin. She won four tournaments as a collegiate player and was also a multiple-time honoree on the Athletic Director's Honor Roll and Pac-12 All-Academic teams.
