Off the Block announced Monday that UCLA setter Micah Ma'a and Ball State libero Adam Wessel were selected as the the Off the Block/Springbak, Inc. Co-National Freshmen of the Week.
Ma'a totaled 11 kills while hitting .389 and guided the offense to a .312 hitting percentage to help UCLA sweep then-No. 9 Pepperdine in three sets last Friday. Ma'a also had 21 set assists, two block assists and six digs for the Bruins in that match.
On Sunday, the setter/hitter added another 11 kills, 26 set assists, a couple of aces and a team-high seven digs in a four-set loss at then-No. 4 Stanford. He added his first block solo and two block assists against the Cardinal. The Bruin team hit .320 in that match.
This is the third time that Ma'a has been named the Off the Block/Springbak, Inc. National Freshman of the Week. The Off the Block/Springbak, Inc. National Freshman of the Week is presented each week during the regular season to the NCAA Division I-II men's volleyball freshman who had the most outstanding performance.
