LOS ANGELES – The postseason will begin for the UCLA track and field team this weekend at the MPSF Championships. The two-day meet will begin on Friday, Feb. 26 in the Dempsey Indoor Facility on the campus of the University of Washington.

This weekend marks the final chance for the Bruins to move into position to qualify for the NCAA Championships. UCLA enters the meet with four athletes currently in the top-16 in their respective events and also boast a DMR squad that ranks eighth in the country.

Heading into Seattle the Bruins have 15 athletes ranked in the top five in the conference. Checking in with the top mark in the MPSF is Rai Benjamin in the 200m (21.17) and Nicholas Scarvelis in the shot put (66-9.75). Scarvelis has won the last two MPSF shot put titles.

Both teams finished fourth last season at the MPSF meet with the women scoring 62 points and the men posting 65.5 points.

UCLA holds three meet records on the women's side as Sheena Johnson posted an 8.06 in the 60m hurdles in 2004 and Chelsea Johnson cleared 14-5.25 in the pole vault in 2006. Last season Ida Storm launched a meet and facility record 73-6 in the weight throw.

The NCAA Indoor Championships will be held in Birmingham, Ala., and will begin on Friday, March 11.
