FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – UCLA junior Linnea Mack broke her own school record twice in one day--first in the championship final of the 100 Back and again as the lead-off leg in the 400 Medley Relay.  Through day three of the 2016 Pac-12 Conference Women's Swimming and Diving Championships, the Bruins are in fifth place.      

400 Individual Medley

Arlyn Upshaw finished eighth in the championship final of the 400 IM after swimming the fifth-best time (4:12.64) in the morning swim.   

100 Butterfly

Three Bruins advanced to the consolation final from Friday morning's session.  Katie Grover just missed the cut for the championship final, placing ninth with a 52.92 in the 100 Fly prelims.  Katie Kinnear and Madison Applegate were 11th and 12th, respectively.  Kinnear's 53.23 and Applegate's 53.71 were new season bests.  Caroline McTaggart qualified for the C final after tying for 23rd in the prelims.   

In the consolation final, Grover and Kinnear placed second (10th overall) and third (11th overall), respectively, while Applegate finished sixth (14th overall).  McTaggart swam the fifth-best time in the C final to finish 21st.    

200 Freestyle

A pair of Bruins qualified for the evening session in the 200 Free.  Grover placed 12th with a 1:47.33 to advance to the B final, while Alex Hubel checked in at 23rd (1:48.78) to make the cut for the C final.  Six UCLA swimmers fell outside the top 24 to advance—Sandra Soe, Carly Reid, Natalie Amberg, Michaela Merlihan, Hayden Walker, and Mary Pelton.  Reid, Amberg, and Walker each posted new season-best times during the 200 Free prelims.      

In the evening swim, Grover and Hubel both posted seventh-place finishes in their respective finals.   

100 Breaststroke

Four Bruins advanced to the 100 Breast finals on Friday.  Freshman standout Emma Schanz qualified for the championship final after finishing eighth in the morning swim with a 1:01.84.  In the final, Schanz recorded another eighth-place finish.  Sarah Kaunitz swam the eighth-best time in the B final to finish 16th overall, while Brigitte Winkler and Elena Escalas placed seventh and eighth, respectively, in the C race. 

100 Backstroke

Two Bruins made the A final of the 100 Back.  Mack placed sixth in the prelims with a season-best 52.14, followed by Madison White in eighth with a season-best 52.67.  Kinnear and Marie-Pierre Delisle advanced to the C final after posting new season bests in the morning session.  Nina Hayes swam a season-best 57.12, but it was not enough to earn her a spot in the finals.       

In the evening session, Mack swam a career-best 51.81 to finish sixth in the championship final.  In posting a new career best, the Bruin junior also beat her own UCLA record of 51.98, which she set last season at the AT&T Winter Nationals.  Teammate White finished close behind in eighth.  In the C final, Kinnear placed fourth (20th overall) and Delisle was sixth (22nd overall).    

400 Medley Relay

In the last event of the evening, the Bruin quartet of Mack, Schanz, Grover, and White hit the pool for the 400 Medley Relay.  The lead-off leg, Mack swam a 51.37 split to register another career best and to break her own school record for the second time in one day.  The squad swam a 3:35.27 to place fifth.    

Championship action concludes on Saturday.  Prelims begin at 11 a.m. PT with the 200 Back, 100 Free, 200 Breast, 200 Fly, 1650 Free, and platform diving events.  The evening session follows at 6 p.m. PT.
