SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - The fifth-ranked Bruins head up the 101 Freeway to co-host the Bruin Wave Invitational on Monday and Tuesday at the San Luis Obispo Country Club. The 54-hole event will be played on the par-72, 6,250-yard layout.
The starting Bruin fivesome will be senior Louise Ridderström, junior Bronte Law, sophomore Erin Choi and freshmen Lilia Vu and Bethany Wu. Playing as individuals will be junior Hadas Libman and sophomores Lydia Choi and Aliea Clark. Monday's play will be a 36-hole shotgun start at 8 a.m., with UCLA opening on holes #1 through #4 in the order of Law, Vu, Wu, Ridderström and Erin Choi. Lydia Choi, Clark and Libman will start on the 18th hole. Everyone will then start on the same holes for their second round. Tuesday's play will be a split-tee start on holes #1 and #10 beginning at 7:30 a.m. Live scoring will be available here.
The 16-team field, which includes co-host Pepperdine, also features #4 Stanford, #10 Washington, #12 Oklahoma State, #14 Arizona State, #15 California, #18 San Diego State, #24 New Mexico, Cal Poly, CSUN, Denver, Hawai'i, New Mexico State, UC Irvine and Washington State.
This is the seventh edition of the Bruin Wave Invitational. The Bruins won this tournament in 2011 and have had a pair of individual medalists, Lee Lopez in 2011 and Erynne Lee a year ago.
UCLA is coming off a T-6 (+17, 881) finish at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate in New Orleans (Feb. 21-23). The Bruins moved up six spots on the final day thanks to a final round 2-over 290. Vu was the top finisher for the Bruins at tied for 11th, shooting a 1-under 215. Law was the only other Bruin inside the top 25 at T-21 (+3, 219). The Bruins have one victory at the Nanea Pac-12 Preview (Nov. 2-3), while also finishing third at the Stanford Intercollegiate (Oct. 18-20).
Vu has four Top 20 finishes on the season, going T-8 at the Pac-12 Preview, T-19 at the Annika Intercollegiate and T-20 at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge. Law, the third-ranked collegiate player in the latest Golfweek rankings, has finished in the Top Four in three of her last four tournaments, winning the Stanford Intercollegiate and going T-4 at the Pac-12 Preview and the NGRC.
Wu had her best collegiate finish at the NGRC with a T-10. She also has two other Top 15 finishes at the Annika and the Pac-12 Preview. Ridderström finished the fall with a pair of Top 10's, going T-8 at Stanford and T-10 at the Pac-12 Preview. Erin Choi finished T-11 at Stanford and T-32 at Nanea.
Lydia Choi posted a T-15 at Nanea and a T-20 at Stanford. Libman made her Bruin debut playing as an individual at the NGRC, finishing in a tie for 65th, while Clark is making her first start of the season.
