Five Bruins Earn ACWPC All-Academic Honors

PHILADELPHIA, Pa., -- Five Bruins captured ACWPC All-Academic accolades, as announced by the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC). The five players consists of senior Daniel McClintick, juniors Patrick Woepse and Alec Zwaneveld, redshirt freshman Austin Rone and freshman Spencer Farrar.

Student-athletes eligible for the ACWPC All-Academic award must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or higher and have competed in at least 50 percent of games in the current season. Athlete merit levels include "excellent" (3.2 to 3.4), "superior" 3.41 to 3.7 and "outstanding" 3.71 to 4.0.

McClintick, a senior utility from Agoura Hills, Calif. (Agoura HS), secured "excellent" honors. This season, he was sixth on the team with 26 goals. He was second the team in both assists (37) and field blocks (16) and was sixth in steals (16).

Woepse, a junior center from Tustin, Calif. (Mater Dei HS), earned "excellent" honors. He played in 20 games on the year, scoring eight goals while drawing 24 exclusions, which ranked fourth on the team. His six penalty shots drawn led the squad.

Zwaneveld, a junior center from La Cañada, Calif. (Harvard-Westlake School), earned "excellent" honors. This season, he scored eight goals and tallied five steals, two assists and was seventh on the team in exclusions drawn with 16, including two penalty shots.

Rone, a redshirt freshman attacker from Coronado, Calif. (Cathedral Catholic HS), also earned "excellent" honors. This season, he played in 22 games, starting twice, while scoring 13 goals and registering 11 steals. He was seventh in assists with 22 and also won three sprints and drew three exclusions.

Farrar, a freshman attacker from Malibu, Calif. (Agoura HS), earned "superior" honors. This season, he played in 30 games, starting five times, while scoring 30 goals to finish fifth on the team. He also registered 22 steals and 15 assists to go with five field blocks.

The Bruins finished the 2015 season by winning the program's 10th NCAA Championship and the school's 113th overall with a 10-7 victory over USC. UCLA finished the year with a perfect 30-0 overall record, the Bruins' first undefeated season since 1969 and the school's single-season record for wins.
