LAKEWOOD, Calif. - The 14th-ranked Bruins and Mississippi State succumbed to Mother Nature on Friday, registering just five outs before rained halted their game at the Long Beach State Louisville Slugger Invitational at Mayfair Park.

It was an eventful 27 minutes of softball between the two teams, as Mississippi State stranded the bases loaded in its half of the first, while UCLA had two in scoring position before the rains were too much. The Bulldogs had two hit by pitches and a single, but sophomore Johanna Grauer induced a pair of pop ups, including a diving catch by junior Delaney Spaulding in the 5-6 hole to end the threat.

In the bottom of the first, Spaulding drew a one-out walk, but was erased on a fielder's choice grounder from sophomore Kylee Perez. Senior Mysha Sataraka followed with a double off the third-baseman's glove just by the third-base bag to bring up freshman Paige Halstead, who worked a 3-2 count before the umpires halted play, eventually for good.

The game may be made up on Sunday, but that has yet to be determined.

The Bruins, field and weather permitting, are scheduled to play a back-to-back doubleheader on Saturday, starting at 11 a.m. against Utah Valley and Iowa State. Live stats will be available at UCLABruins.com.
