NEW ORLEANS – The UCLA track and field team had seven earn All-American honors the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced Monday.
Five Bruins were named to the first team while two more garnered second team accolades. The distance medley relay and Nicholas Scarvelis were awarded first team honors while shot putters Braheme Days and Dotun Ogundeji were named to the second team.
Scarvelis posted his best finish at an NCAA Championship meet by placing sixth overall in the shot put. The senior posted a mark of 64-1.25.
The UCLA record-breaking DMR finished seventh with a time of 9:34.39. The quartet of seniors Ferdinand Edman, Nick Hartle Austin O'Neil and sophomore Joe Herrera earned first team honors for the first time in their careers.
UCLA had two more shot putters earn second team accolades as Days finished 10th in his first ever NCAA meet with a mark of 61-6.75 while the freshman Ogundeji was 12th at 61-2.75.
UCLA will open the outdoor season when it hosts Arizona and Washington State at the Jim Bush Collegiate Invitational on Tuesday, March 22. The meet will be televised live on the Pac-12 Networks.
