7TH INNING SPOTLIGHT
An ordinary day for a UCLA baseball player sounds a little like this: 6:00 am wake up call for weights, class throughout the day, and practice in the afternoon going into the evening. With most of their days committed to baseball it's hard to think they'd have time for anything else in their lives, but rest assured they do.
The Seventh Inning Spotlight aims to shine light on the unique personalities and lifestyles of each UCLA baseball player with Q & A's to get to know each player beyond their athletic abilities. Each week we will be highlighting a new student athlete. So stay tuned to learn about one of your favorite Bruins.
Q & A with Christoph Bono
What would you say is your biggest accomplishment outside of sports?
Being selected as a scholar athlete the past three years.
What was the last picture you took with your phone?
A picture of the 80 degree weather of Santa Monica to rub it into my friends on the East Coast.
What is something you've always wanted but never got?
I've wanted to invent a way to remove keys from the world so that you wouldn't have to have them in your pocket at all times. It would be like a universal credit card to get into everything.
What car do you drive?
A 1999 Lexus ES300. It's old in terms of years, but it's good in good shape. It's nickname is Little Red.
What is the greatest compliment you've ever received?
People have said they've never seen me get mad before, either that or just being “easy going”.
What's your greatest fear?
I'm not scared of heights, but I would never go skydiving and any roller coaster that goes upside down I can't do.
What is your most interesting habit?
Smelling food before I eat it to see if it's good. I don't believe the expiration dates of food...if it smells fine I'm going to eat it.
What is your favorite spot in LA to eat?
Hama Sushi in Venice, which I just had last Saturday. They have fresh fish and the rolls are delicious. They have a California Roll with eel and strawberry on top... it doesn't sound very good but it's really good.
If you could trade places with anyone for a day, who would it be and why?
Mark Wahlberg. That's my guy, he lives the life. He's always got something going. He is in a bunch of movies, was a rapper then a model, and also started Entourage.
What is one thing that you can't live without?
Haribo Candy, because it's the best candy in the world...Gummi Bears, Sour Coke Bottles, Twin Cherries, Sour Spaghetti, and the Peaches are so good.
Do you have any nicknames? What is the weirdest one?
Bones and some of my friends from high school call me Deer because my high school coach said I ran like a deer.
Tell me about a secret hobby of yours?
Darts, I like playing Darts. It's a fun game of skill and strategy I guess.
If you were given a plane ticket to go anywhere in the world, where would you go?
Portofino in Italy. I've been to Italy but I've never been there.
What do find is most important about a person's character?
People who are spontaneous.
If you were the lead in a movie who would it be and what movie?
Bruce Wayne in any of the Batman movies.
