RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif. - The fourth-ranked Bruins head south for the first of two straight tournaments that will feature match play competition. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday will be spent at The Farms Golf Club in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif., as UCLA takes part in the SDSU March Mayhem at The Farms.
The 16-team tournament will be a 72-hole, match-play event on the par 72, 6,211-yard layout. First-round seedings were based on the Golfstat rankings as of March 15, with the Bruins entering as the #2 seed in the bracket. UCLA will take on #15-seed Delaware (#111 in Golfstat rankings as of March 17).
The other first-round matchups include #1-seed USC (#1 Golfstat) vs. #16-seed UC Irvine (#158), #8-seed Oregon (#26) vs. #9-seed Colorado (#21), #5-seed Arizona State (#13) vs. #12-seed UC Davis (#82), #4-seed Stanford (#9) vs. #13-seed Texas State (#76), #6-seed California (#15) vs. #11-seed Kansas (#84), #3-seed Arizona (#11) vs. #14-seed Memphis (#92) and #7-seed San Diego State (#17) vs. #10-seed TCU (#37).
The Bruins' matchup against Delaware will be the first of two rounds for UCLA on Monday. The winner of the UCLA-Delaware contest will face the winner of the San Diego State-TCU match later that afternoon. To win the overall match, a team must win three of five individual matches. Rounds three and four will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively, with 18 holes each day. Live scoring will be available here.
The fivesome going out for the Bruins this week will be senior Louise Ridderström, juniors Bronte Law and Hadas Libman and freshmen Lilia Vu and Bethany Wu. Monday's tee times against Delaware begin at 7:30 a.m. on the 10th tee in the order of Libman, Wu, Vu, Law and Ridderström.
UCLA is coming off a 14-shot victory at the Bruin Wave Invitational in San Luis Obispo (Feb. 29-March 1). Individually, the Bruins also finished 1-2 in the standings, as Ridderström defeated Law on the second playoff hole to record her first collegiate win. Vu (T-5) and Wu (T-18) also posted Top 20 finishes in San Luis Obispo. It was the second victory of the season for the Bruins, who also ended the fall campaign with a victory at the Nanea Pac-12 Preview in Hawai'i in November.
