LA JOLLA, Calif. – After a four-win run at the 127th Annual Pacific Coast Men's Doubles Championships, the Bruin duo of Maxime Cressy and Martin Redlicki fell in the quarterfinals to top-seeded Julian Cash and Arjun Kadhe of Oklahoma State.
The seventh-seeded pair, Cressy and Redlicki coasted past their opponents en route to the quarterfinals. In the first two rounds, the Bruins dispatched Furman's Rhodes and Steryous followed by Boise State's Moyer and Wischner—both with a score of 8-3. In their first tilt with a seeded team, Cressy and Redlicki were unfazed, downing SDSU's Cevallos and Ianakiev, 8-5.
In the round of 16, the pair faced Pac-12 foes Goransson and Griffith of Cal. After edging the 14th-seeded Bay Area duo, 7-5, in the first set, Cressy and Redlicki cruised to a 6-2 win in the second to advance to the quarterfinals. There, the Bruin pair dropped the first set in the tiebreaker, but rallied in the second to force a third. In the end, Cash and Kadhe came out on top.
Three other UCLA pairs played in this weekend's tournament, each advancing at least one round. Fourth-seeded Joseph Di Giulio and Karue Sell made a run as well, but their effort was cut short in the round of 16. The pair fell to third-seeded Fawcett and Romanowicz of Stanford in straight sets. Logan Staggs and Ryoto Tachi registered two wins before falling to Iamachkine and Pane of Pepperdine in the round of 32. Lastly, Gage Brymer and Austin Rapp fell in the round of 64 after downing UNLV's Alberts and Amilon, 8-5, in the round of 128.
UCLA returns to action in Westwood when it hosts No. 44 BYU on Thursday, Mar. 10. The match takes place at 2:30 p.m. PT at the Los Angeles Tennis Center.
