Five UCLA men's volleyball players earned All-MPSF honors in a vote of the league coaches announced on Thursday.
Sophomore hitter Jake Arnitz and freshman setter/hitter Micah Ma'a were selected to the first team. Junior middle blocker Mitch Stahl was chosen to the second-team squad. Junior setter / hitter Hagen Smith and sophomore hitter JT Hatch received honorable mention accolades. Ma'a was also named to the MPSF All-Freshman Team.
Arnitz leads the Bruins and is listed eighth in the league in kills per set (3.29) and also 10th in the league in points per set (3.85). Ma'a ranks second in the MPSF in aces per set average (0.51). His total of 54 service aces is just two shy of tying for the all-time school single-season rally scoring lead (Gonzalo Quiroga, 2014 and Adam Naeve, 2001 - 56). Ma'a also is ranked among the league leaders in set assists (6.02) where UCLA placed second as a team.
Stahl, who was an honorable mention choice last season, ranks eighth in the MPSF in hitting percentage (.448), fifth in blocks per set average (1.25) and 13th in service aces per set (0.31).
Smith is listed among the MPSF leaders in set assists per set (5.88) and has posted career-best numbers in kills and blocks this season. Hatch ranks fourth in the MPSF in service aces per set (0.42).
UCLA, ranked No. 3 and with a record of 23-5, will host No. 8 Hawai'i in an MPSF Quarterfinal Playoff Match on Saturday at 7 p.m. in Pauley Pavilion. Tickets will be available at the door.
