LOS ANGELES - The UCLA track and field team will host Texas A&M in a dual meet on Saturday, April 16th at Drake Stadium. The meet will showcase 43 athletes from both schools who have marks in the top 25 in the country.
The meet will start with the women's hammer throw at 10 a.m. The first event on the track will be the women's 400m relay at 3 p.m. Tickets can be purchased online or at the box office for $8 for adults and $5 for youth.
The dual meet will be clash between two teams in the top-10 in the Track and Field News Dual Meet Rankings. The Aggies enter as the No. 1 team while the Bruins are seventh on the men's side. The Texas A&M women are fourth and the UCLA women are fifth.
The Bruins proved themselves last weekend by setting several impressive marks in the wet weather conditions. Junior Torie Owers won the shot put with a season best of 55-0.75 and freshman Michael Burke won the high jump with a mark of 7-1. Other standouts included freshman Greta Wagner clearing 13-1.50 to win the pole vault and on the track Daniel De La Torre won the 3,000m with a time of 8:29.97.
UCLA enters the meet with 14 marks in the top 25 in the country. Senior Kylie Price still leads the NCAA with her long jump of 21-4.75. In the shot put sophomore Braheme Days ranks 6th with a throw of 63-10.5 and freshman Dotun Ogundeji is not far behind with a throw of 61-8.25 that ranks 11th.
Texas A&M enters the meet with 29 marks in the top 25 in the country. Senior Maggie Malone and sophomore Ioannis Kyriazis lead the nation in the men's and women's javelin with respective throws of 198-0 and 268-7. Ranked second in the nation is sophomore Audie Wyatt in the pole vault with a jump of 18-6.5 and senior Latario Collie in the triple jump with a jump of 53-8.5. On the track both men's relay teams rank third in the nation with a time of 39.17 in the 4 x 100 relay and a time of 3:03.34 in the 4 x 400 relay. Also leading on the track is the women's 4 x 100 Relay that ranks fifth with a time of 43.29.
After three consecutive weeks at home the Bruins will head to San Diego next weekend for the Triton Invitational. This two day meet will take place on Friday, April 22 and Saturday, April 23. The hammer, pole vault, and discus will begin on Friday and will continue into Saturday along with track events and the remaining field events.
