PLEASANTON, Calif. - The top-ranked UCLA women's golf team heads up to Northern California this week for the Pac-12 Conference Championships at the Ruby Hill Golf Club, which runs from Monday through Wednesday on the par-72, 6,458-yard layout.
The Bruins come in as one of the hottest teams in the country, having won each of their last three stroke-play events, the PING/ASU Invitational (April 8-10), the Liz Murphy Collegiate Classic (April 1) and the Bruin Wave Invitational (Feb. 29-March 1). The Bruins have four victories on the season, also claiming the Nanea Pac-12 Preview (Nov. 2-3). UCLA posted a season-best total of 12-under 852 in Tempe last weekend, as junior Bronte Law earned individual medalist honors with a 54-hole total of -12 (204).
Law, the top-ranked player in the latest Golfweek rankings, will be joined in Pleasanton by senior Louise Ridderström, junior Hadas Libman and freshmen Lilia Vu and Bethany Wu. UCLA tees off with #2 USC in Monday's opening round at 9:40 a.m. in the order of Libman, Wu, Ridderström, Vu and Law. Live scoring will be available here.
Law has earned her spot as the #1 player in college golf, having posted two wins (other at Stanford Intercollegiate), a second at the Bruin Wave and a pair of T-4's at Nanea and the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge (Feb. 7-9). She is 19-under on the season for a scoring average of 71.0. Law is a staggering 18-under in her final rounds, going under par in all seven tournaments.
Vu, the 10th-ranked player according to Golfweek, is coming off a second-place showing at the PING/ASU with a season-best, 9-under 207. She placed inside the Top 20 in six of her eight events, including a T-5 at the Bruin Wave and a T-8 at Nanea. Ridderstrom has won back-to-back events in the spring, claiming the Bruin Wave (-3, 213) and the Liz Murphey (-4, 68), adding a T-14 finish at the PING/ASU Invite to end the regular season. Her four Top 10's are second only to Law.
Wu has back-to-back, Top 20 showings after going T-4 at the Liz Murphey (-1, 71) and T-18 at the Bruin Wave. Both of her sub-70 rounds came at the season-opening Annika Intercollegiate (Sept. 27-29), when she placed 12th. In four stroke-play events, Libman's best finish was a T-12 at the Liz Murphey. She has also appeared in each of the last two match-play contests, the SDSU March Mayhem at the Farms and the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic.
