Nicholas Scarvelis was named the Pac-12 Field Athlete of the Week

SAN FRANCISCO – UCLA senior thrower Nicholas Scarvelis was named the Pac-12 Field Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced on Tuesday.

Scarvelis made his outdoor season shot put debut in impressive fashion as he uncorked the best mark in the nation. The back-to-back Pac-12 Champion launched a personal-best throw of 67-0 (20.42m) to easily win the event against top-ranked Texas A&M in a dual meet at home.

His throw ranks fifth all-time on the prestigious UCLA list that includes former World Champion and Olympian John Godina. He also came back to win the discus with a throw of 187-1 (57.03m).

The Bruins will have a busy week as the throwers will head to Chula Vista to compete at the Olympic Training Center on Thursday. The team will participate in the two-day Triton Invitational in San Diego that will begin on Friday.
