PLEASANTON, Calif. - Four Bruins were named to the All-Pac-12 teams following the conclusion of this week's Pac-12 Championships. Junior Bronte Law and freshman Lilia Vu both earned First Team honors, while senior Louise Ridderström and freshman Bethany Wu each received Honorable Mention accolades.
Law picked up her third-straight, All-Pac-12 honor after being named Second Team in 2013 and First Team, as well as conference Golfer of the Year, last season. Ridderström received her second All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention nod, also earning the award in 2014.
Law, the top-rated collegiate golfer in the latest Golfweek rankings, has a scoring average of 70.7 and is a remarkable 29-under par this season. She has a pair of wins at the Stanford Intercollegiate (Oct. 18-20) and the PING/ASU Invitational (April 8-10). Law also has four other Top 10's, including second-place showings at the Bruin Wave Invitational (Feb. 29-March 1) and the Pac-12 Championships (April 18-20) and a pair of T-4's at the Nanea Pac-12 Preview (Nov. 2-3) and the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge (Feb. 7-9). Law, who has 16 rounds under par and eight under 70, has opened and closed tournaments in a strong fashion, posting a total of -11 in her eight first rounds and a -24 in her eight final rounds.
Vu is under par on the season with a -2 total in 25 rounds and a scoring average of 71.8. She enters May's NCAA Regionals with five under-par rounds in her last six, finishing second at the PING/ASU and tied for third at the Pac-12 Championships with a combined score of 17-under. Vu, who has four Top 10's, nine rounds under par and six under 70, set a season best with a -9 (207) at the PING/ASU, recording a year-low score of 67 in her second round. She is also an outstanding 6-0-1 in two match-play tournaments.
Ridderström won back-to-back, stroke-play events at the Bruin Wave and the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic (April 1). She shot a season-best, 5-under in her final round at the Bruin Wave and defeated Law in a playoff for her first collegiate victory. Then in the lone stroke-play round of the LMCC, Ridderström shot a 4-under 68 to earn medalist honors. She has a scoring average of 73.9, four Top 10's, six rounds under par and three under 70.
Wu has two Top 10's and six Top 20's on the season, including three-consecutive, Top 20 showings. She finished T-12 at the Pac-12 Championships with a 1-under 215. Wu was T-4 at the LMCC and 12th at the season-opening Annika Intercollegiate. The freshman has four rounds under par this season and two in the 60's.
Next up for the Bruins are the NCAA Regionals, as 72 teams will find out where their postseason journeys begin. Golf Channel will air the Regional selections on Monday at 3 p.m. The four Regionals will take place May 5-7 in Baton Rouge, La., Bryan, Texas, Shoal Creek, Ala. and Stanford, Calif.
