SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - The Bruins head to The Country Club this weekend for the Pac-12 Championships. The tournament runs from Friday through Sunday on the par-71, 7,209-yard layout.
The four-round tournament will feature 36 holes of action on Friday and 18 on both Saturday and Sunday. Teeing it up for the Bruins are seniors Lorens Chan and Jonathan Garrick, sophomores Tyler Collier and Brandon Mai and freshmen Phil Delisi and Cole Madey. On Friday, UCLA will go off the first tee starting at 7:30 a.m. MT/6:30 a.m. PT in the order of Mai, Delisi, Madey, Collier, Chan and Garrick. The second round is slated to start at 12:45 p.m. MT/11:45 a.m. PT. The top five scores from each round will be used for the overall team total. Live scoring will be available here.
The Bruins have a quartet of top four finishes this season, placing second at the Amer Ari Invitational (Feb. 4-6, season-best 27-under), third at both the Northern Intercollegiate (Sept. 12-13) and the Erin Hills Intercollegiate (Oct. 4-6) and fourth at the Gifford Collegiate (Nov. 2-4). In UCLA's last tournament of the regular season, it finished ninth at the Western Intercollegiate (April 11-13).
Garrick has been the top scorer for the Bruins this season in six of nine tournaments with a scoring average of 72.0. He has four Top 10's, including a win at Erin Hills (season-best 10-under). Garrick also finished fourth at the Gifford, T-5 at the Amer Ari Invite and T-6 at the Northern Intercollegiate. He has 12 rounds under par, including six in his nine second rounds.
After missing the fall campaign with a wrist injury, Chan has played five times during the spring, posting a season-best T-16 at the Western Intercollegiate, which was the low score for the Bruins. He has a scoring average of 73.7 and three rounds under par, with two coming at the Amer Ari Invitational.
Mai's last tournament was at the TMC Spring Invitational (Feb. 29-March 1) when he tied for sixth with a 1-under score. Of his 15 rounds, just three have come as a non-individual (United States Collegiate Championship, Oct. 16-18). Collier, who also did not play in the fall, will be playing in his third-straight event. At the Western, he tied for 37th, which included an even-par second round.
Madey has been the UCLA low scorer in two of the Bruins' last four events. He tied for 19th at The Hayt (Feb. 26-28) and was T-35 at The Goodwin (March 24-26). Madey has four rounds under par, including a pair at the Amer Ari, when he tied for 13th. Delisi has played in seven of the Bruins' nine tournaments. He has a pair of rounds under par and a season-best, T-24 finish at Erin Hills.
UCLA has won five Pac-12 Championships in 1982, 1983, 1985, 2003 and 2006. Individually, six Bruins have earned medalist honors (Pete Lazzlo, 1970; Corey Pavin, 1982; Steve Pate, 1983; Duffy Waldorf, 1985; John Merrick, 2003; Daniel Im, 2006).
