TULSA, Okla. – Mackenzie McDonald and Martin Redlicki both advanced to the round of 32 at the NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Singles Championship after downing their first-round opponents on Wednesday morning.
Due to a downpour, No. 38 Redlicki's match against No. 50 Gergely Madarasz of Purdue was moved inside. The Bruin sophomore cruised to a 6-2 win in the first set, but Madarasz challenged Redlicki in the second. Knotted at 6-6, the set went into a tiebreaker. Redlicki punched his ticket to the round of 32 by taking the tiebreaker, 7-3.

On the other side of the men's bracket, sixth-seeded McDonald squared off with No. 42 Ryotaro Matsamura of Kentucky. McDonald blanked Matsamura in the first set and coasted past the Wildcat, 6-2, in the second.

"I thought I played a really good match," said McDonald. "I think that was a perfect first-round match for me. I really took care of business, played very clean, and that's how I pictured a perfect first round."
McDonald faces Notre Dame's Quentin Monaghan (No. 35) in the round of 32 at 7 a.m. PDT on Thursday. Monaghan advanced with a 6-4, 6-0 win over No. 57 Strong Kirchheimer of Northwestern.
"I definitely feel more settled going into the next round," said McDonald. "Of course you're going to have nerves here at the NCAAs. I think I handled it well today. I'm looking forward to tomorrow."
