TULSA, Okla. – UCLA's Catherine Harrison fell to top-seeded Hayley Carter of UNC in the round of 32 at the NCAA Division I Women's Tennis Singles Championship on Thursday morning.  With the loss, the Bruin's collegiate singles career comes to an end. 

In the first set, No. 17 Harrison trailed Carter 3-1 after being broken by her Tar Heel foe.  Carter held and then broke Harrison again to extend the lead to 5-1.  Top-seeded Carter held to win the first set 6-1.   

At 2-2 deuce, Harrison double faulted to fall behind 3-2 in the second set.  The opponents then traded two games apiece, failing to break the other's serve.  Harrison trailed 5-4 heading into Carter's serve.  The Bruin broke Carter at love to knot the score at 5-5, but gave the break right back.  Unable to break Carter at 6-5, Harrison dropped the second set 7-5. 

Doubles action kicked off on Thursday afternoon.  The seventh-ranked duo of Harrison and Kyle McPhillips squared off with No. 57 Katherine Ip and Emily Smith of Rice.  After taking the first set, 7-5, the Bruin pair dropped the second to head into a third-set tiebreaker.  Harrison and McPhillips punched their ticket to the round of 16 with a 7-5, 5-7, 1-0(4) win.      

"We were just taking it a point at a time," said McPhillips of the win.  "We were trying to play as well as we could in the wind.  It's a little bit different for us.  It was our first match, so I think we were getting our rhythm."
