TEMPE, Ariz. – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced the 2015-16 Division I regional award winners on Monday.  UCLA head coach Billy Martin, associate head coach Grant Chen, and junior Mackenzie McDonald each earned Southwest Region accolades.

Martin, the Wilson/ITA Coach of the Year, has coached the second-ranked Bruins to a 22-2 record this season, which includes an unblemished 7-0 mark in Pac-12 play.  To close out the regular season, his Bruins clinched the Pac-12 regular season title with a 4-2 win over crosstown rival USC.  The squad then went on to capture the Pac-12 Tournament title after downing Stanford in the semifinals, followed by California in the championship match.  Martin earned his 500th career win this season when the Bruins blanked USF, 7-0, in their season opener.  In his 23 years at the helm of the UCLA men's tennis team, he has compiled a 521-110 (.826) record.   

In his first season as associate head coach, Chen was named the ITA Assistant Coach of the Year.  UCLA's fourth recipient of this accolade, Chen joins the ranks of Brett Greenwood ('99), Jason Sher ('01), and Kris Kwinta ('10).     

McDonald, the sixth-ranked player in the nation in singles, received the ITA/Arthur Ashe Leadership and Sportsmanship Award.  The junior is 13-1 at the top of the lineup and 11-1 against ranked opponents—his only loss at the hands of Virginia's Ryan Shane, ranked 11th at the time.  Last time out, McDonald clinched the Pac-12 Tournament title for UCLA when he rallied to defeat Cal's Florian Lakat in three sets.  This is McDonald's second regional award, as he was the 2014 ITA Rookie Player of the Year.      

By winning regional honors, Martin, Chen, and McDonald are now in contention for the national awards in their respective categories.  National award winners for Division I will be announced on Tuesday, May 24.
