Law Perfect in Curtis Cup Win

ENNISKERRY, Ireland - Junior Bronte Law became just the second player in Curtis Cup history to post a perfect 5-0 record in helping Great Britain and Ireland win the biennial tournament at Dun Laoghaire Golf Club.

Law's GB&I squad defeated the United States team, which featured UCLA freshman Bethany Wu and incoming freshman Mariel Galdiano, by a score of 11.5 to 8.5. Law, who recorded the clinching point for her team, joined American Stacy Lewis (2008) as the only players to post a 5-0 mark in a single Curtis Cup.

"The team was just incredible," Law said. "For me to end it this way - it's probably going to be my last Curtis Cup - is just a dream. I am so proud to just represent my country."

Law's undefeated trip in Ireland began with a 2 and 1 Friday foursome victory (with Olivia Mehaffey) over Galdiano and Hannah O'Sullivan, as the GB&I pair never trailed in the match. In Friday afternoon four-ball, Law (with Leona Maguire) faced her teammate Wu (and Sierra Brooks), with the UCLA junior again never trailing in the 4 and 3 victory. In that same session, Galdiano and O'Sullivan earned a 1-up victory versus Mehaffey and Charlotte Thomas to help the U.S. to a 3-3 tie after day one of play.

Law made it 3-for-3 in Saturday morning foursomes, teaming up with Mehaffey to beat Bailey Tardy and Monica Vaughn, 3 and 2. Wu earned a point for the U.S. side, teaming with O'Sullivan to record a 1-up win over Maguire and Thomas. In Saturday's afternoon session, Law and Mehaffey combined to beat Wu and Vaughn, 3 and 2. Galdiano (with Tardy) suffered a 3 and 2 loss in the penultimate session against Meghan MacLaren and Maria Dunne.

Two of the three Bruins won during Sunday's singles action. Law completed the weekend sweep with a 2-up victory over Mika Liu, coming back from an early 2-down deficit to win thanks to triumphs on the 17th and 18th. Galdiano knocked off Dunne, 2 and 1, while Wu fell 2 and 1 to MacLaren. Galdiano went 2-2 in her first Curtis Cup, while Wu had a 1-3 record.
