CLOVIS, Calif. – The UCLA track and field team was well represented this past weekend at the USATF Junior Championships held at Veterans Memorial Stadium. The Bruin youth and members of the incoming class shined in the heat at Buchanan High School.
Colin Burke closed out his 10,000m race in impressive fashion as he placed second overall with a personal best time of 30:46.25 to automatically qualify for the World Junior Championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland on July 19-24.
On the final day of competition Michael Burke also punched his ticket to Poland as he cleared a personal best 7-2.25 to finish second in the high jump.
UCLA signee Celera (CiCi) Barnes showed her promise in the 100m and 200m as she clocked a personal best of 11.41 to finish third overall and make the squad as a member of the relay. She also clocked an 11.52 in the prelims and ran a 23.70 in the 200m prelims.
Also competing for the Bruins were Jackie Garner in the 5,000m (8th, 17:28.69), Lillianna Hebert in the high jump (8th, 5-5.75), Jasmine Stauffacher-Gray in the 400m hurdles (11th, 1:01.26), Millen Trujillo in the 1,500m (11th, 3:51.79), and CJ Alumbres in the triple jump (14th, 43-8.50). UCLA signee Isaiah Holmes competed in the long jump.
Several Bruins will head to Eugene, Ore., for the U.S. Olympic Trials at Hayward Field. The event begins on July 1 and concludes on July 10.
