On Friday, wide receiver Ishmael Adams was named to the watch list for the Paul Hornung Award presented by Texas Roadhouse. The Hornung Award recognizes the nation's most versatile player.
Adams, who played defensive back and was a kick returner in his first three seasons on the team, shifted to wide receiver for 2016 spring practices. He has started over 30 career games in the Bruins secondary and has made eight career interceptions. Adams returned three of his interceptions for touchdowns, one shy of the school career mark held by Alterraun Verner. Last season, Adams returned one of his thefts 96 yards for a score against Colorado.
In 2014, Adams was chosen to the first-team all-conference squad by the Pac-12 coaches. He returned both of his interceptions that season for touchdowns (20 yards at Virginia and 95 at Arizona State) to tie the school single season record. Adams also returned a kickoff 100 yards against the Sun Devils for a score. He returned 21 punts overall during the season for a 9.2 average which ranked 26th in the nation. He was ninth in the Pac-12 in kickoff return average at 22.7 yards.
Adams led the team with four interceptions in the 2013 season and ranked seventh on the team with 61 tackles. He returned 10 kickoffs for a 35.0 yard average. Adams was named Pac-12 Special Teams Player of the Week after racking up 234 return yards in the contest vs. Arizona State, including a 58-yard kickoff return and a 49-yard punt return.
After week 12 of the regular season, a panel of college football experts creates a Hornung Award candidate list of approximately 10-15 players based on their performance during the season.
