IRVINE, Calif. -- The fifth-seeded Bruin Water Polo Club won its first-ever US Open of Water Polo with a 9-8 win over second-seeded Golden Bear Club on Sunday at the Woollett Aquatics Center, clinching the gold medal. The BWPC's Max Irving received Most Valuable Player honors. Garrett Danner and Alec Zwaneveld were also named to the All-Tournament Team. For complete tournament results including individual match scores, click here.

The Bruin Water Polo Club advanced to the finals with an 8-8 (3-1) shootout win over top-seeded NYAC A. Going 6-0 over the three-day, 16-team event, the BWPC went 3-0 in Group D, which included wins over Alumni (9-6), Commerce (15-3) and NYAC B (15-5). The BWPC also posted an 11-9 win over SB Premier in the quarterfinals.

As for the rest of the results on the men's side, SB Premier defeated Alumni 14-12 for fifth and Stanford stopped the USA Youth National Team 13-5 for seventh. NYAC B topped Newport in a shootout for ninth place and the 11th place match was halted and abandoned after multiple exclusions with CHAWP A leading San Diego Shores, 9-4. In 13th place, 680 defeated CHAWP B 15-9 and rounding things out was Foothill earning 15th place with a 19-13 win over Commerce.
