Gymnastics
With an Olympic gold medal already in hand from the team competition, incoming freshman Madison Kocian added an uneven bars silver medal to her collection on Sunday. Kocian scored 15.833 in the individual event finals, just narrowly missing gold, which went to Russia's Aliya Mustafina with a 15.900. The margin of victory came down to the start value, as Mustafina had a one-tenth advantage over Kocian, who earned the highest execution score with a 9.133 to Mustafina's 9.100. Read full story.

Women's Volleyball
In its final match of pool play, Team USA, led by UCLA great and head coach Karch Kiraly, defeated China in four sets on Sunday to finish the preliminaries with a 5-0 record. Karsta Lowe, coming off a 10-kill match on Friday versus Italy, played briefly in the opening set, totaling one block. The quarterfinals of the women's volleyball tournament will begin on Tuesday for Team USA at 10 a.m. PT against Japan.

Men's Water Polo
The U.S. Men's Water Polo team ended its Olympic competition with a 10-7 win over Italy to finish in fifth place in Group B action with a record of 2-3. Only the top four teams advance to the quarterfinal round from each group. Bruin alumnus Josh Samuels got his fourth start and was one of four Americans with two goals in the contest. He also added one steal while playing 26:33 of the match. Samuels scored seven goals in his first Olympics, second on Team USA. He also registered four steals, two assists and one field block while winning a team-high seven sprints. UCLA junior Alex Roelse, also in his first Olympic Games, tallied one goal on two shots with one assist and one steal.

Women's Basketball
Bruin alumna Nirra Fields and ninth-ranked Team Canada (3-2) finished third in Pool B after a 73-60 defeat to third-ranked Spain (4-1). Fields came off the bench to play 18:58, leading the Canadians in scoring with 13 points, a tournament-best for the 5-foot-8 guard. She also added four rebounds, three steals and one assist. Canada will square off against fourth-ranked France in the quarterfinals on Tuesday, Aug. 16.

Badminton
Current UCLA undergraduate student Iris Wang dropped a match to China's Xuerui Li in straight sets on Sunday afternoon (scores were 16-21, 12-21). Wang has posted a 2-1 record through three matches in women's singles group play (Group E). Li improved to 3-0 in group play.
