UCLA freshman Jessie Fleming and Team Canada won Olympic bronze in women's soccer after a 2-1 victory over Brazil in the bronze medal match on Friday.

Fleming becomes the second UCLA student-athlete to earn a medal at the 2016 Olympic Games, joining fellow freshman Madison Kocian, who won one gold and one silver in gymnastics.

Fleming played a key role in the match, setting up the decisive goal through a steal, some crafty footwork and a perfect pass to Deanne Rose, who fed Christine Sinclair for the game-winner. Fleming also blocked a potential game-tying shot in the final two minutes of play.

UCLA goalkeeper coach Aline Reis did not play for the fourth-place Brazilian squad. Reis made one appearance in the Olympic Games, starting against South Africa in group play and earning a shutout in her national team debut. Fleming started every game for the Canadians and had one assist in the opening round victory against Australia.

Fleming is expected to join the UCLA women's soccer team next week. The Bruins' season begins tonight at San Diego State.
