BRISBANE, Australia – The UCLA women's basketball team opened up its Australian tour with an 83-48 victory over the Southern Districts Lady Spartans on Sunday, Aug. 21 at Rowland Cowan Stadium in Carina, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.
The Bruins had four players in double figures, led by sophomore Kennedy Burke's 18 points. Burke also added eight rebounds, three steals, two assists and one block.
UCLA led 17-16 at the end of the first period and increased the lead to 40-33 by the break. The Bruins extended their advantage to 20 points by the end of the third with a 62-42 lead, holding the Lady Spartans to just nine points in the quarter. But the fourth quarter was even better defensively as Southern Districts only scored just six points as UCLA scored 21 more to provide the 83-48 final.
The Bruins received double-double performances from junior Monique Billings (13 points, 12 rebounds) and senior Nicole Kornet (10 points, 10 rebounds). Billings added three steals and two blocks while Kornet had three assists and one steal.
Senior Kari Korver rounded out the quartet of Bruins in double figures with 12 points. She also had eight rebounds, six assists and one steal, shooting 4-for-11 from three-point range.
All nine Bruins that played in the contest, scored, including nine points from sophomore Ashley Hearn. She also added six rebounds and two blocks. Junior Jordin Canada registered eight points, six assists and one steal. Freshman Ally Rosenblum tallied eight points and six boards while junior Kelli Hayes finished with four points, three assists and two steals. Junior Paulina Hersler recorded four rebounds, one point, one assist and one steal.

UCLA's second game will be versus the Cairns Dolphins on Tuesday, Aug. 23, at the Cairns Basketball Stadium in Cairns, Queensland, Australia. Game time is slated for 7:00 p.m. local time (2:00 a.m. on Tuesday in Los Angeles).
The third game will be against the Sydney Uni Flames (WNBL) on Friday Aug. 26 at Brydens Stadium in Darlington, New South Wales, Australia at 7:00 p.m. local time (2:00 a.m. on Friday in Los Angeles). UCLA's final game will be against the Sydney Comets on Saturday, Aug. 27 at the Alexandria Basketball Stadium in Alexandria, New South Wales, Australia. The contest is slated to tip at 8:00 p.m. local time (3:00 a.m. on Saturday in Los Angeles).
