CAIRNS, Australia – The UCLA women's basketball team improved to 2-0 on its tour through Australia with a 101-58 rout of the Cairns Dolphins on Tuesday, Aug. 23 at Cairns Basketball Stadium in Cairns, Queensland, Australia.

The Bruins had seven players in double figures, led by junior Kelli Hayes' 17 points. She also added five rebounds, three steals and three assists. 

UCLA trailed 5-2 when senior Nicole Kornet took the game over, scoring the Bruins' first 10 points, culminating in a jumper that gave her team a 10-7 lead with 6:47 left in the first period. The Bruins never trailed again. However, UCLA only led 29-27 at the end of the first period as the Dolphins shot 81.8 percent (9-for-11) from the field in the opening stanza.

Three straight steals and layups and two more stops and scores provided UCLA a 12-0 run and a 39-27 lead with 7:02 left in the second after a jumper by junior Jordin Canada. Canada finished with 12 points, five steals, five assists and four rebounds. UCLA would end the period with a 10-0 run to take a 61-38 lead into the halftime break.

The Bruins doubled up the Dolphins in the third quarter, 28-14, to build an 89-52 lead heading into the fourth. The last period was at a much slower pace, with the Bruins again doubling up Cairns, 12-6, to provide the 101-58 final.

Kornet finished with 16 points after the hot start and added three rebounds and three steals. Junior Monique Billings had 13 points and added three rebounds and one steal while senior Kari Korver also had 13 points to go with five steals, three assists and one board. Junior Paulina Hersler contributed 12 points, four rebounds, one assist and one steal.

Sophomore Kennedy Burke rounded out the seven Bruins in double figures with 10 points. She also registered a team-high seven rebounds, five steals and two assists. Freshman Ally Rosenblum just missed double figures with eight points. She tallied four rebounds, three steals, one assist and one block. Sophomore Ashley Hearn added three rebounds and one assist off the bench.

UCLA's third game will be versus the Sydney Uni Flames (WNBL) on Friday, Aug. 26, at the Brydens Stadium in Darlington, New South Wales, Australia. Game time is slated for 7:00 p.m. local time (2:00 a.m. on Friday in Los Angeles). UCLA's final game will be against the Sydney Comets on Saturday, Aug. 27 at the Alexandria Basketball Stadium in Alexandria, New South Wales, Australia. The contest is slated to tip at 8:00 p.m. local time (3:00 a.m. on Saturday in Los Angeles).
