LOS ANGELES - No. 16 (AP) /24 (Coaches) UCLA opens the 2016 football season on Saturday, Sept. 3 at 12:30 p.m. PT at College Station, Texas versus Texas A&M. The game will be televised by CBS. Calling the game will be Verne Lundquist, Gary Danielson and Allie LaForce. The Bruin IMG Radio Network (Josh Lewin, Matt Stevens, Wayne Cook) will radio broadcast the contest on 570am LA Sports. The contest will also be aired over Sirius/XM (Ch. 81), uclabruins.com and tunein.com and the TuneIn App.
UCLA will open a campaign on the road for the fifth time in the last seven seasons. The Bruins defeated Virginia in last season's opener in the Rose Bowl (34-16). UCLA kicked off the 2014 campaign with a 28-20 win in Charlottesville. The Bruins opened the 2013 season at home with a win over Nevada, but played on the road to begin the 2012 (W at Rice), 2011 (L at Houston) and 2010 (L at Kansas State) seasons.
This will be the fifth meeting between the Bruins and the Aggies on the gridiron. The schools last met in the 1998 Cotton Bowl, a 29-23 UCLA victory.
UCLA is 17-14-4 all-time vs. teams in the current Southeastern Conference -- Texas A&M (2-2), Alabama (2-1), Arkansas (1-0-1), Florida (3-2), Georgia (0-2), Missouri (2-0-1), Tennessee (6-7-2), Vanderbilt (1-0).
UCLA is 64-28-5 in season-opening games in 97 seasons of play. The Bruins have won 14 of its last 16 non-conference matchups, it had a streak of 11 straight non-conference wins snapped in last season's bowl loss to Nebraska. UCLA has won all 12 regular season non-conference games under Coach Mora and UCLA has won 14 of its last 17 contests played away from the Rose Bowl and nine of its last 11 conference road games.
In 2015, the Bruins finished 8-5 overall and in a tie for third in the South Division of the Pac-12 with a 5-4 record.
Fifth-year head coach Jim Mora (37-16 record overall) welcomes back 12 (eight defensive DL Takkarist McKinley, DL Eli Ankou, DL Deon Hollins, LB Jayon Brown, LB Kenny Young, DB Jaleel Wadood, DB Randall Goforth, DB Marcus Rios), four offensive (OT Conor McDermott, OG Kenny Lacy, WR Darren Andrews/Kenneth Walker, QB Josh Rosen), 0 specialists returning starters.
