Women's Gymnastics
Incoming freshman Madison Kocian earned UCLA's first medal of the 2016 Olympic Games, helping lead Team USA to a dominant first-place finish in the team competition. The U.S. defeated silver medalist Russia by over eight points. Kocian tied for the highest score of the competition on any event, scoring 15.933 on uneven bars.

Women's Water Polo
The U.S. Olympic Women's Water Polo team kicked off its quest for back-to-back gold medals with a commanding 11-4 victory over Spain on Tuesday. Courtney Mathewson led the Bruin contingent in scoring with two goals, while KK Clark, Rachel Fattal, and Maddie Musselman each netted one. Team USA returns to the pool on Thursday, Aug. 11, to face China. The match will be live on NBC at 7:40am PT and on delay at 10:40am PT. It will also stream live on NBCOlympics.com and the NBC Sports App.
Women's Soccer
Freshman Jessie Fleming earned her third start of the Olympic Games and played in the first half of Team Canada's 2-1 win over Germany in the final match of group play. With the win, their first-ever over Germany in 13 meetings, the Canadians claimed the top spot in Group F with a 3-0-0 record. Canada will take on France in the quarterfinals on Friday at 3pm PT.

Incoming freshman Mal Pugh made history in the United States' 2-2 draw with Colombia, becoming the youngest player in U.S. National Team history to score a goal in the Olympics. Pugh, who played 57 minutes in the contest, put the U.S. ahead, 2-1, with her 60th minute goal. Although Colombia tied the game in the final minute on a free kick, the U.S. team still won Group G with a 2-0-1 record and will face Sweden in the quarterfinals on Friday at 9am PT. UCLA goalkeeper coach Aline Reis made her national team debut for Brazil a significant one, starting in the team's 0-0 shutout against South Africa. Reis made two saves in the game. The Brazilians will also play in Friday's quarterfinals, facing Australia at 6pm PT.
Additionally, Rosie White played 19 minutes and had one shot in New Zealand's 3-0 loss to France that eliminated the Kiwis from the tournament. New Zealand finished with a 1-2-0 record.

Beach Volleyball
The USA beach volleyball duo of UCLA alum Lauren Fendrick and Brooke Sweat fell on Tuesday to the top-ranked Brazilian squad of Larissa Franca Maestrini and Talita Rocha, 21-16, 21-13. Fendrick had 11 kills and three blocks. Fendrick and Sweat, who are 0-2, close out pool play on Thursday against Russians Ekaterina Birlova and Evgenia Ukolova.

Men's Volleyball
Coach John Speraw's USA Men's Volleyball National team dropped a four-set decision to Italy as pool play continued on Tuesday. Next up for the U.S. men is a date on Thursday with the host country of Brazil, the defending silver medalists in the sport from the London Games.
