No. 21 UCLA Knocks Off Oregon, 80-69

LOS ANGELES -- No. 21 UCLA (10-3, 2-0) won its second-straight game over an undefeated team on Saturday afternoon with an 80-69 win over Oregon (11-1, 0-1) in Pauley Pavilion. The win was the Bruins' 17th straight victory over an unranked opponent and improved the series lead to 34-27.
Senior Nirra Fields returned to the starting lineup and made an immediate impact, scoring 11 points in the first quarter, and ending with a season-high 31 points. Sophomore Jordin Canada completed her second double-double of the year with 12 points and a career-high 11 assists. Senior Kacy Swain had the fifth double-double of her career and the fourth this season with 10 points and 14 boards. Junior Kari Korver extended her three-point shooting streak to 24 straight games with a trey, ending with 11 points while sophomore Monique Billings scored 10 points and added seven rebounds to put all five Bruin starters in double figures.
Leading 10-8, the Bruins won the first quarter thanks to an 11-1 run, punctuated by back-to-back three-pointers by senior Nirra Fields. Fields ended the quarter with 11 points as UCLA led 23-15.
The Bruins still led by eight at 25-17 (8:14) when the Ducks went on a 7-0 run to pull to within one on a layup by Jillian Alleyne (5:37). Oregon would outscore UCLA 13-6 in the final four minutes to win the quarter 24-12 and take a 39-35 lead into the locker room at the break. Alleyne already had 15 points and nine rebounds at the half. Fields was scoreless in the second quarter, but continued to be the Bruins' leading scorer with 11 points.
Oregon tooks its largest lead of the game at 42-37 on a three-pointer by Lexi Bando (9:07). But it was mostly all UCLA for the rest of the quarter, which the Bruins won 28-12. Trailing 45-43 after a pair of free throws by Bando (5:25), UCLA eneded the quarter on a 20-6 run, which included three triples from Korver. Fields also added five more points in the run that gave UCLA a 63-51 lead heading into the fourth.
While the Ducks won the fourth quarter 18-17, they could not get closer than eight points (69-61, 6:24). The Bruins maintained a double-digit lead for most of the final period.
For the game, UCLA outrebounded Oregon 45-35, which included 18 offensive rebounds, five by Swain and four by Billings. The Bruins were outshot from the field (44.1 % compared to 41.7 %), but scored five more three-pointers than Oregon (8-3).
Alleyned had another double-double of 25 points and 16 rebounds. Jacinta Vandenberg was the only other Duck to reach double digits with 12 points. She also added eight boards for Oregon.
The Bruins return to action on Monday, Jan. 4, 2016 when they host defending Pac-12 champion and 10th-ranked Oregon State (9-2, 0-0) at 7:00 p.m. in Pauley Pavilion on the Pac-12 Networks.
