Bruins Going Strong at Cal Nike Invite

BERKELEY, Calif. – After ousting the top-seeded doubles pair in the semifinals, UCLA's Jada Hart and Terri Fleming will face ASU's Kassidy Jump and Sammi Hampton in the ITA Blue Doubles Flight finals on Sunday morning at the Cal Nike Invitational.
The Bruin duo upset two seeded pairs en route to the final. In the quarterfinals, Hart and Fleming edged fourth-seeded Alex Osborne and Savannah Slaysman of ASU, 8-6. The pair then downed No. 1 seed Denise Starr and Maria Smith of Cal, 8-4. Sunday's final takes place at the Hellman Tennis Complex at 9 a.m. PT.
In the Gold Doubles Flight, Alaina Miller and Kristin Wiley's run was cut short by the second-seeded pair of Danielle McIntyre and Kareena Manji of Saint Mary's. The Bruin duo fell, 8-4, in the semis.
In singles play, sixth-seeded Fleming fell to third-seeded Jump in the ITA Blue Flight quarterfinals while seventh-seeded Wiley edged Santa Clara's Madison Clarke in three sets in the Blue Consolation Flight. Wiley faces USF's Anna Sokiran in the consolation semifinals on Sunday at 10:15 a.m. PT at Hellman.
In the Gold Consolation Flight, Miller registered another straight-set win when she coasted past UC Davis' Isabella von Ebbe to advance to the semifinals. Miller faces BYU's Samantha Smith on Sunday at 10:30 a.m. PT at Cal's Channing Tennis Courts.
Friday Action
Fleming got off to a hot start with two straight wins in the ITA Blue Flight. After downing Kareena Manji of Saint Mary's in straights in the round of 32, the Bruin edged Cal's Maria Smith in three sets to advance to the quarterfinals.
Hart also registered a win in the Blue Flight round of 32, defeating Fresno State's Emma Wilson, 6-2, 6-4. The Bruin newcomer then fell to eighth-seeded Sammi Hampton of ASU in the second round. After dropping her first-round match to Fresno State's Katerina Stloukalova, seventh-seeded Wiley edged Sacramento State's Karina Vyrlan in a third-set tiebreaker in the Blue Consolation Flight.
In the ITA Gold Flight, top-seeded Miller fell to Pari Kaur (Saint Mary's) in her first-round match, 6-4, 5-7, 2-6. The sophomore then went on to dispatch Nevada's Adriana Gergelyova in straight sets in the consolation bracket.
In doubles play, both Bruin pairs registered first-round wins. In the ITA Blue Flight, Hart and Fleming edged BYU's Mayci Jones and Polina Malykh, 8-7(6), while Miller and Wiley ousted fourth-seeded Anna Sokiran and Margarita Treyes of USF, 8-3.

In the first round of pre-qualifying singles at the 2016 Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships, seventh-seeded Ena Shibahara downed Texas A&M's Macarena Olivares in straight sets. After blanking Olivares in the first set, the Bruin freshman advanced with a 6-4 win in the second set. In her evening match, Shibahara registered another straight-set win, this time against Tamuna Kutubidze of North Texas.
Next up, Shibahara squares off with TCU's Olaya Garrido-Rivas on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. PT.
