VS. WASHINGTON STATE โIn the last meeting in Pullman, Brett Hundley threw three touchdown passes to lift UCLA past Washington State, 44-36, on a 27-degree night in 2012. WSU dominated the first quarter but could only come up with seven points, then was outscored by UCLA 30-0 in the second quarter. Hundley fired three scoring passes, UCLA blocked two field goal attempts, returning one for a touchdown, and also returned a fumble for a score in the first half of play. WSU gradually cut into the Bruin lead and two fourth quarter scoring passes reduced the Bruin advantage in the final minutes to a one score margin.
Last year in the Rose Bowl, WSU capped off a 75-yard drive with a 21-yard touchdown pass with three seconds to play to top the Bruins 31-27. Josh Rosen's 37-yard scramble for a touchdown had put UCLA ahead with 1:09 to play. Rosen completed 33 of 57 passing attempts on the night for 340 yards, seven to Darren Andrews. Kicker Ka'imi Fairbairn became the all-time leading scorer in the Pac-12 during the game after kicking a first quarter field goal. Center Jake Brendel set a school mark during the contest by starting in his 49th career game.
In 2011 in the Rose Bowl, UCLA pulled out a 28-25 decision over the Cougars. The Bruins trailed for much of the first three quarters, and were down, 22-14, early in the fourth quarter when a 32-yard rush by Johnathan Franklin helped to spark the team. QB Kevin Prince, who had entered the game in the second quarter due to an injury to Richard Brehaut, passed nine-yards to Josh Smith for a touchdown to make it 22-20 with 10:52 to play. The two-point conversion attempt failed. A WSU field goal made it 25-20 with 5:49 remaining. The Bruins answered with Prince connecting on a 58-yard pass play with Nelson Rosario which put the Bruins at the Cougar 10-yard line. On third down, Shaq Evans grabbed a seven-yard scoring toss from Prince with 3:26 on the clock. The two-point conversion pass to Rosario made it 28-25. In UCLA's 2009 trip to Pullman, the Bruins forced turnovers on WSU's first three series (interceptions by Akeem Ayers-2 and Rahim Moore, en route to a 43-7 victory. Quarterback Kevin Prince accounted for 390 yards in total offense.ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย
