NEW YORK - The John Mackey Award has released the 2016 John Mackey Award Midseason Watch List that included UCLA senior Nate Iese. Given annually to the most outstanding collegiate tight end, the award recipient is selected by vote of the John Mackey Award Selection Committee and the 2016 John Mackey recipient will be announced on December 7, 2016 and then presented live on December 8, 2016 at The Home Depot College Football Awards Red Carpet Show on ESPNU.
Iese is in the midst of his senior season with the Bruins. The 6-3 Elk Grove native has already posted career best numbers under the tutelage of coach Rip Scherer just six games in. Iese has hauled in 13 passes for 209 yards and two touchdowns. His 209 yards ranks third on team while adding 16.1 yards per grab. Of his 13 receptions, 10 have resulted in first downs, including the two touchdowns.
NFL Hall of Fame member John Mackey is considered to be the best to have played the tight end position. A tight end by whom all others are measured, Mackey was a role model on and off the field as demonstrated by his Super Bowl Championship, his commitment to community and his place in history as the first President of the NFLPA.
