UCLA Cross Country Passes Midseason Test

MADISON, Wisc. โ The UCLA cross country team once again asserted themselves on the national stage, this time at the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational on Friday on the Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course. The Bruin men placed sixth overall while the women finished 13th.
The men impressed on Friday with another top-10 team finish at a prestigious meet. For the second time this fall senior Ferdinand Edman paced the Bruins, placing 10th with a time of 24:02.9. Senior Jonah Diaz also put together a stellar showing, placing 27th with a time of 24:24.1.
Freshman Colin Burke finished 57th with a time of 24:39.5 while senior Austin O'Neil was 69th with a 24:47.4. In his first race in a UCLA uniform, freshman Garrett Reynolds placed 83rd in 24:52.8 while junior Myles Smith crossed the line in 102nd with a 25:01.9. Freshman George Gleason rounded out the Bruins in 178th with a time of 26:18.4.
The women placed 13th overall with 348 points. The Bruins toed the line with six underclassmen, including four freshmen.
In just her first season on the cross country trail, freshman Claire Markey paced the Bruins with a 25th place showing in a time of 20:41.3. Sophomore Julia Rizk placed 67th in 21:05.3 while in her first race of the season sophomore Carolina Johnson closely followed in 68th at 21:05.4.
Freshman Cassie Durgy was 80th with a time of 21:13.4 while freshman Jackie Garner was the fifth Bruin harrier, finishing in 108th with a 21:31.2. Rounding out UCLA was freshman Sophie Baird in 120th with a time of 21:38.4 and junior Ronie Yamane in 161st at 22:06.1.
The Bruins will take another week off to train and then head to the Pac-12 Championships. The meet is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 28 at the Randolph North Golf Course in Tucson, Ariz.
